Upgrade Capacity |
|
One of the best things about a LIVINGWATERS® Water Treatment System is that we have kept our promise to build a system that reflects the 8 point guide published by Lono in his best-selling book "Don't Drink the Water." Our systems can be easily upgraded so people don't have to buy a new system every time they want to avail themselves of the latest technology.
In other words we were "green" before it became fashionable. We are also about helping our customers save their "green" while enjoying the safest, healthiest water on the planet.

Because we have kept our promise in that regard, many of our customers who bought systems over 15 years ago are enjoying technology today that wasn't invented at the time they bought their systems. A lot has changed in the water business over the last couple of decades.
- Our first systems couldn't remove fluoride or arsenic or very high levels of nitrate. Today, we build systems that can provide effective reduction of these dangerous contaminants.
- Our first systems couldn't remove extremely high levels of nitrates. Today we offer a solution to this rare but difficult problem.
- Our first systems couldn't remove chloramine from water. In fact, nothing could. Chloramine is one of those nasty chemicals that goes right through RO membranes and distillers and remains in the product water. But it didn't matter back then because chlorine was the primary way municipalities disinfected their water. When it became clear that chlorine creates some nasty disinfection by-products that cause cancer, chloramine became the disinfection method of choice. Unfortunately, research is revealing that chloramine may be far more dangerous than chlorine. That is why we are one of the only companies in the country now building both RO and cartridge-based systems that can do an effective job of reducing chloramine.
- When we developed our SAFEWATER TECHNOLOGY™, we didn't have a solution to colloidal turbidity. Colloidal turbidity is caused by the presence of very small particles of rust or silica. These particles are as small or even smaller than bacteria. They cause a problem for any water treatment system capable of such fine filtration (like RO and capillary bundle membranes) because they pass through pre-filters and cause premature fouling of the membranes. People who live in certain regions of the country find themselves having to change filters or membranes twice as often as people in the rest of the country. Today we are one of the only companies to offer our customers an effective solution in the form of our Nanoceram® superfilters.
- Other people who have a reason to upgrade are those who purchased countertop systems because they were renting. Now they have purchased a home and want their system converted to an undercounter system to save counter space. We can do it.
If you bought a system that doesn't have one of these capacities and you find you now need it, you can easily upgrade to one that does.
Upgrading is a practical option because our systems are so easy to remove and reinstall. It only takes a minute or two and anyone can do it. Once it is removed you can ship your system to us and we'll add the capacity you want and make the system as good as new and return it to you quickly so you don't have to buy bottled water for too long.

How To Upgrade |
|
To decide whether or not you need to upgrade your system you must first understand what the system you own can do. (We realize it can be confusing so if you need help, please don't hesitate to call us at 1-888-524-8627 or email us. We have records of what you own and can help you through the process.)
If you have a LIVINGWATERS® system, you can look at the pictures in our online store to determine which model you own. Simply look down the lefthand column of links and click on either countertop or undercounter systems to find the pictures.
If you have a two canister (any system with two sumps) undercounter (LWUC2) or countertop (LWCT2) system you have a system that uses our basic SAFEWATER TECHNOLOGY™. When it comes to microbiological protection, your water is safe from bacteria, molds, spores, and cysts and 99.9% of virus. Not only that, but it will not be able to support the growth of these microorganisms. You also enjoy water that is very clean when it comes to chlorine, the disinfection by products of chlorine, volatile organic compounds that give water "off" tastes and odors, as well as heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and mercury. The system will preserve the healthy alkaline minerals that make water and the beverages made with it taste great. It will also have an improved redox potential that turns your water into a healthy anti-oxidant. THE BOTTOM LINE: Your water is already better than the vast majority of other systems can make it. The most common upgrades for this system is to add fluoride/arsenic reduction capacity (this is a 1 cartridge upgrade) or fluoride/arsenic and chloramine reduction capacity (this is a 2 cartridge upgrade.)
If you have a three canister undercounter (LWUC3) or countertop (LWCT3) system, your system already includes one of the first four options listed below. Simple review the labels on the front of your system to see which cartridges are there. If you want to add an additional capacity, you'll know what you need. The most common is a person who bought a system that removes fluoride, but now needs a system that removes both fluoride and chloramine. This is a 1 cartridge upgrade.
If you have a four canister undercounter (LWUC4) or countertop (LWCT4) system, your system already includes two of the first four options listed below. Again, review the labels on the front of your system to see which cartridges you may want to add. The most common is colloidal turbidity protection which is a 1 cartridge upgrade.
If you have a countertop system and you would like to convert it to an undercounter system, we can do it. This is called a system conversion. In addition to the conversion package you will have to add the faucet of your choice. If you would like, you can also add 1 or 2 cartridges to a system conversion.
Upgrade Options for LIVINGWATERS® cartridge-based systems include:
- ADD Chloramine Reduction Capacity: If your municipal system has switched from chlorination to chloramination. (Call your municipal provider to find out.) You may also want this capacity if you are on a private well and have reason to believe your aquifer has been contaminated with drug residues. This requires a 1 cartridge upgrade.
- ADD Fluoride/Arsenic Reduction Capacity: If there is reason to believe there is fluoride or arsenic in your water. (Municipal water may have added fluoride. Consult our regional guide for arsenic to see if a water test for arsenic is in order.) This requires a 1 cartridge upgrade.
- ADD Excess Nitrate Reduction Capacity: If you live in an area where your water has 10 ppm or more of nitrate. (If you are on municipal supplies this will not be a problem. If you are on a well, do a water test to find out.) This requires a 1 cartridge upgrade.
- Colloidal Turbidity Reduction Capacity: If you live in New York City, San Francisco, or have had problems with your system requiring too-frequent filter replacements. This requires a 1 cartridge upgrade.
- ADD Complete Virus Protection: If you live in an area where viruses in water might be a problem (swampy, low-lying areas or areas where the water supply may be contaminated with human or animal wastes, you may want ultrafiltration capacity. This can easily be added to your system with a simple cartridge change, however be aware the flow from your system will be somewhat slower.
- Change from Countertop to Undercounter Style: If you own a countertop system that you would like changed into an undercounter system we can do it. This requires a system configuration upgrade and your choice of a faucet.
Once again we understand this process can be confusing. If you need help, please don't hesitate to call us at 1-888-524-8627 or email us. We can call your municipal water provider or suggest the best choice in water tests to help you decide what you need. We also have records of what you own so we can help you through the process.
